Signals are intercepted again after 30 minutes of radio blackout FEB. 17, 6,331 AD - CST (Commonwealth Space Telescope) "Stapledon" is programmed to make a detail analysis of universe to be visited by CSC Clarke. Universe is catalogued as "Universe - AK" AUG. 15. 6.335 AD - Repeat of unusually high sunspot activity. Total radio blackout for 27 minutes approximately. JAN. 22, 6,342 AD - Temporary loss of signals both in and out of Universe - AK, due to attack on McCain Space Center by Chinese Confederate Airforce as part of World War Nine (6,340 - 6,351 AD, decisive Anglo-American victory) JUN. 8, 6,345 AD - All systems concerning Operation: Carpathian are back online. CSC Clarke is shown to still be on course, but CST Stapledon has been destroyed by Chinese laser-satellite 3-1-0 DEC. 11, 6,352 AD - Work begins on a recovery vessel to return the crew of CSC Clarke to Earth upon completion of the mission. Plans are also drawn up for a new space-telescope. Tracking of the CSC Clarke is temporarily performed by New Jodrell Observatory in Lesser Britain APR. 1, 6,360 AD - Construction begins on recovery vessel, now designated CSC "Kubrick". Duricebo Observatory in Calisota relieves New Jodrell of tracking CSC Clarke. Concerns are made about quantity of R-5 supercontentrated fuel, but no action is taken 6,372 AD - CSC Clarke safely lands on planet of destination, and begins scouting area for signs of life and/or activity MISSION REPORT: Upon touchdown, the planet Genus / AK-1173 was shown to have been devestated at some undetermined point in the past by high levels of chemical and nuclear fallout. Signs of a once-thriving civilisation were found by the Thales-class rovers aboard CSC Clarke, as well as some skeletal remains of alien species with animal-like features. The reports made by the crew of CSC Clarke, once correlated with similar findings made by both CST Stapledon and the CST "Wells" launched in that year, it was shown that approximately 65% of known planets in Universe - AK suffered from similar radioactive pollution that had been introduced to their ecosystems artificially. The main objective of the mission - the erratic radio signals - were proven to have been caused by a faulty transmitter, housed within a concrete bunker beyond the ruined city on Genus / AK-1173 and powered by a set of solar-charged batteries built into the roof of the bunker. Once repaired, the signals were interpreted as a form of distress signal that had been triggered automatically by means unknown. CONCLUSION: All of the evidence drawn together by the crew of the CSC Clarke and the Earth space-telescopes and observatories suggests that Universe - AK, once home to a series of thriving, semi-technocratic civilisations, became involved in a large-scale galactic war. Their technologies, having already advanced far beyond human capabilities, led to the creation of some form of "ultimate weapon" or "doomsday device". The two opposing sides had most likely developed similar devices, and had detonated them concurrently, poisoning the inhabited worlds with critically high levels of fallout. The radiation would have killed many instantly, with others dying of radiation sickness soon afterward. The detonation of these doomsday machines somehow triggered an automatic distress signal, which had been damaged by the fallout, and the signal was later received by New Jodrell Observatory in Lesser Britain. Exactly how these devices operated, or how they caused such catastrophic damage, is open to debate. The evidence drawn here is based on the preliminary findings of the reports from CSC Clarke, and may be discreditted should evidence be found to the contrary. REPORT FILED: Michael Andrews.
